What is a Quora Space?
Spaces is a new feature that allows people to curate collections and form communities around shared interests and tastes. Spaces can be used in a number of different ways, and we're launching with a diverse set of creators that reflect the range of possibilities. For example:
- A group of people can work together to curate the most interesting answers and links about a particular area of interest, such as Farm-to-Plate or SaaS Daily.
- An individual can use spaces to organize their own writing into different sections, as Robert Frost is doing with his collection of his Space Exploration answers, and Mac Tan is doing with his answers on the US Midterm Election.
- A community of people can create a space to have shared conversations with each other, like Science Lounge or Defense Quorum.
How are Spaces different from blogs?
While blogs and spaces have similar features right now, we intend for Spaces to be capable of doing everything blogs can do and a lot more. Spaces already have lower friction to contribution with support for shares, links, and short posts. We've learned a lot from our experience with blogs and we think knowledge-sharing works best in groups, whether big or small, and want to support that use case really well. For example, a space can choose whether it wants comments from everyone or just its own contributors, and we'll be continuing to expand the feature set over time.
How do I start a Space?
At this time, the ability to create new spaces is limited to a handful of writers and publishing partners. We'll be using this initial phase to collect feedback, iterate, and ensure that we've built a robust product before releasing it to everyone on Quora. Can I cancel an invitation to join a Space as a contributor or follower?
At this time, you won't be able to cancel an invitation. You'll need to wait for the user to accept the invitation. Once it has been accepted, you'll be able to remove the user from the space by going to “People”, select the “...” next to the user you'd like to remove and select “Block”. Blocking the user will remove them from the space and make them unable to join, comment, or add content. They can still follow and view the space. This action can be undone.
